Day 2: Bastrop

No carbohydrate diet begins today!

Saturday 2nd March

Awake at 4.0 am!  Managed to make myself stay in bed until 5.0 am but then had to get up and wander about!

By the time Peter was awake I'd got some ideas for moving the furniture around to suit us better!  Nesting!   The dining chairs here are all bar stools - two for the breakfast bar and four around the high dining table in the dining area.   Nothing in the breakfast room. So we moved a table in from the family room into the breakfast area and planned to get some chairs for it.   We have to eat with our feet on the ground, not dangling in the air!

Then up and off to Bastrop about 1.5 hours drive in the direction of Austin which is SSW of College Station.  This is where Bob and Mary live and we went to collect a large, heavy suitcase that we left with them on our last visit, and a bag of summer shoes that we left with them last October.

We had a drink with them, caught up on gossip and then went to their nearby Mexican restaurant for a quick lunch before heading back to College Station with two of their folding chairs!  What would we do without them!

We stopped off at a shop in CS to buy some essentials: a kettle, a teapot, wooden spoons, two sharp knives, a saucepan, two pyrex dishes and some chopping boards.  The kitchen boasts 6 frying pans and two of saucepans of odd sizes but not quite enough equipment for what I call 'proper cooking', i.e. meals that require at least 3 saucepans and something to serve the food in at the table!   We also had to buy bottled water - a practice we have always scorned - but the water here is slightly saline and it makes the tea taste terrible.

Peter set up his office in one of the bedrooms and we felt we had done a good day's work!
