Sunday 3rd March
We're like dogs finding just the right spot in the basket to settle down in, turning round and round to make ourselves comfortable!
Today's fidgeting involved more excursions to shops to:
- get our US mobile phone activated
- buy a printer
- get groceries and check out other food shops
We met the neighbour and her dog...and their two massive 4x4 SUVs and their Harley Davidsons! She was very friendly, as are all the people we meet everywhere. Friendly and courteous.
A couple of interesting discoveries made today.
Both the neighbour and the manager of the house are very vague when it comes to information on recycling. Quite clearly they don't bother. Any trip to a store produces another plastic bag or five. We already have a drawer full. The local paper 'The Eagle' announced that Austin - that den of liberalism away to the west - has just introduced bring your own grocery bags. One resident commented, "There's nothing wrong with plastic bags, their just trying to take our rights away from us". Oh dear!
The other discovery was historic downtown Bryan, just up the road from here. We went in the late afternoon. It was deserted. Like a ghost town. We wandered around with an historic tour map in hand and notes some interesting restaurants, cafes and shops to return to.
